This has been one of the longest weeks I’ve had in recent times. I worked all through the week without a break in between. I also had unscheduled, important meetings that had to be done and then I closed the week with a dramatic visit to the dentist (I will properly document this experience next week if something more interesting doesn’t come up.. lol).
But all that work came with excitement, each of us needs to do what we love, to feel and know that each day we wake up, we’ll make a difference in the lives of others. Though it’s been a long week, it has also been an exciting week!
What is even more exciting is what’s to come in May 2021. Yes, I was born in May, also got married to my precious and amazing wife in May (we turn 5 this year by the way *grin*), and I’m always very excited to celebrate these.
But what’s bringing the extra excitement this year are two new programs that are very dear to my heart. One of the things I’ve always wanted to do is to help other people rise, and this is easy to say, but I’m just so happy I’ll be walking the talk, again!
Two key programs are coming up in May 2021, and I’ll discuss them below:
1. Code Pink – No, this isn’t a medical emergency for women, thank goodness!

Code Pink is e86 Limited’s annual code camp for teenage girls who just finished secondary/high school.
It is a free code camp for teenage girls and it’s the company’s way of covering the gender gap in technology. Young girls who have just completed their secondary school education are selected to participate in the code camp over 15 weeks.
What’s even more interesting is that this camp is not one where participants won’t come out with anything tangible.
During these 15 weeks, here is what these girls will learn:
1. HTML
2. CSS
3. Javascript
4. SQL
5. Python programming
6. Django Framework
7. Android Programming
And that’s not all. Of the 32 lucky girls that will be selected this year, 12 of them who top their batches with outstanding final projects will be further rewarded with exciting tech tools that will enhance their success in the industry.
Can you now see why I’m so excited?
Part of e86 Limited’s vision is to build capacity for Africans by Africans, and one of the key areas of focus is to improve female representation in technology across Africa. In all my years of experience in the tech space, female representation has always been low and this remains a big issue today. I’m happy e86 is doing something about it, I am super proud to be a part of this and I consider it a privilege!

2. TLEG – The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Every year from May 2021, I’ll be working with a team of professionals in different fields to help men from ages 16-40 find their feet and balance. This program is for young men who are looking for meaning, inspiration, clarity of purpose, and a sense of direction. It’s a fellowship for young men between age 16-40, for Guidance, Mentorship, Discipleship, and Strategic Positioning. They will be forming a network of reliable connections, helping each other to grow while creating opportunities. It’s a fellowship for building capacity, scholarship, networking, and helping young men become responsible and well-respected men in our society.
The mentorship program is an annual program that runs for 24 weeks. This year, 10 lucky young men will be selected to participate in this maiden edition. Successful candidates will be paired with mentors who will guide them on different topics all through the program. Mentors will make a final recommendation on each mentee after the completion of the program. A mentee can be recommended for scholarships, business funding, or further assistance. I consider this as one of the most important assignments in this generation.

I am looking forward to these programs and I’m excited to see the lives that will be impacted by them. Which of these programs excite you? What’s on your lineup for May 2021?
