TLEG – The League of Extra-Ordinary Gentlemen

In 2019, I was inspired to start TLEG, The League of Extra-Ordinary Gentlemen (1 Chronicles 12:32), a fellowship for young men from ages 16 to 40 for Guidance, Mentorship, Discipleship, and Strategic Positioning.

I strongly believe that we need to raise and train boys differently for the world to be a better place.

The challenges:

  1. I see a lot of young men who are not willing to take responsibility. Responsibility for their own lives, choices, and family.
  2. I see young men given to vices, gangs, drug abuse, and alcoholism.
  3. I see a lot of young men who are unable to get their lives back on track due to bad choices.
  4. I see young men who crave someone to hold their hands on the journey of life.
  5. Why are we raising boys strictly as providers? Why are we leaving the responsibility of making a home to women? Why are there so many men unable to connect to their wives and children emotionally?

Proposed solutions:

  1. A fellowship for young men between ages 16 and 40 for Guidance, Mentorship, Discipleship, and Strategic Positioning.
  2. They will be forming a network of reliable connections, helping each other grow while creating opportunities.
  3. The fellowship will be for building capacity, scholarship, networking, and helping young boys become responsible and well-respected men in society.

Vision:

  1. To raise a new generation of young men. Men of integrity, value, and purpose. Men who will carry kingdom wealth and influence here on earth to fulfill God’s agenda in these end times
  2. To create a network of 10 million men every ten years.

Mission:

To achieve the above, we will create:

  1. Capacity-building programs
  2. A 6-month mentorship fellowship annually
  3. Topic-specific conferences are held quarterly.
  4. Academic scholarships
  5. Business funding

Annual 24-Week Mentorship Programme: How It Works

The mentorship program is an annual program that runs for 24 weeks.

Applications open on May 1 and close on June 30 each year. Mentoring sessions begin in July and end in December each year. All candidates interested in the mentorship program are to apply via an application portal that uses their details to determine their eligibility.

Successful candidates are then paired with mentors who will guide them on different topics all through the program.  Mentors will make final recommendations for mentees after the completion of the program.  A mentee can be recommended for a scholarship, business funding, or further assistance.

For the mentees

  • Mentees are required to be committed to the entire program by being available for meet-ups and conversations.
  • Mentees are required to be cordial and respectful to their mentors all through the program.
  • Mentees are not allowed to make financial demands throughout the period of the program.
  • Requesting such will result in ending the mentee’s participation in the program.
  • Mentees are expected to learn as much as possible, using the experience of the mentor as a ladder.
  • Mentees are required to create time to meet up with the mentor’s schedule.

For the mentors

  • Mentors are encouraged to give as much time as possible to their mentees.
  • Mentors should not offer any form of financial support directly to the mentees. All such support should be routed through the program and will be handed over to the mentee only at the end of the entire program.
  • All we ask for is time on the part of all parties involved and the willingness to see the change in the lives of others.
  • Mentors are expected to follow the weekly guidelines on selected topics but are allowed to teach and inspire beyond the guidelines.
  • Personal experiences and opinions are allowed, but it is important to tell the mentee from which perspective the mentor is speaking; this, we believe, will enable the mentee to make rational decisions.
  • Mentors are allowed to link mentees with non-financial opportunities that can further boost their chances of success.
  • Mentors will also advise and recommend mentees for sponsorship and funding.

We expect this meeting to be held at least once a week throughout the duration of the program. This meeting can be held virtually or physically.
